Covering four million acres, the spectacular scenery of Lake Clark National Park stretches from the shores of Cook Inlet to the Chigmit Mountains and the tundra covered hills of the western interior. In the shadow of these volcanos sits the Great Alaska Bear Camp, one of Alaska’s most ideally positioned bear viewing camps.

Itinerary at a Glance

Day 1
Anchorage to Great Alaska Bear Camp
Day 2
Great Alaska Bear Camp to Anchorage

Day 1 Anchorage to Great Alaska Bear Camp (Lake Clark)
Depart Anchorage by shuttle van for a scenic 3 hour drive to River Side Main Lodge on Kenai Peninsula. After orientation and lunch (included) at the lodge take an exciting bush plane flight to the camp. Fly by the peaks and glaciers of two of Alaska’s most famous volcanoes (Mount Redoubt and Mount Illiamna) and land on the beach directly in front of Alaska Bear Camp. The camp is perfectly situated between the ocean shore and the stream where the salmon spawn. Spend the rest of the day out in the field viewing bears. Accommodation at the camp is in custom made “weather-port” cabin/tents for 2 on raised platforms with wooden floors, solid doors, propane heaters and twin beds and porta potties (showers are also available at the camp). The camp is surrounded by an electric fence for safety. Meals are hearty and are served family-style.

Day 2 Great Alaska Bear Camp (Lake Clark)
Wake up to hot coffee and a wash basin of steaming water. After a hearty breakfast, you guides will discuss the best viewing options, then it’s off to one or both of the special viewing locations. Lunch and dinner will be served back at the main camp with an evening fire on the beach.

Day 2 or 3 Great Alaska Bear Camp to Anchorage
After breakfast, continue on your last viewing tour. After lunch, you will be boarding your plane to the River Side Main Lodge. Relax at the lodge before your shuttle van departs back to Anchorage. Arrive in Anchorage between 9.00pm-9.30pm.

Package Includes:

  • Transfers between Anchorage Downtown hotels to Kenai Island (River Side Lodge)
